Note: the legendary tape in digital form at last!. I don't know much about this other than it was recorded for an album and did not come out. this is a studio album- cleaned up from tapes, some tape noise present but by far the cleanest version i've heard. the exTRas are also awesome indeed.

Note: this is one that was recorded for later broadcast and was truncated slightly for rebroadcast. after bag lady, todd picks on a big mouth in the audience and it's very funny. the bonus tracks also include some promo spots - adventures, something/anything?, awats, and ra...VERY fun stuff. i understand there is a cleaned-up version of this available that is an upgrade so i hope to get this upgraded soon.

Note: this is as big as they ever got...sold-out spectrum in philly. the crowd goes wild from start to end. some observations: todd seems to emphasize the utopia thing- says lcm is "not on any utopia lp", calls willie "white trash" wilcox, use of motorcycle kit sounds like crap despite todd's claims. talks of conservation of energy - bolero nice but seemed to be a yawn for the crowd... still not full sounding on emergency splashdown but getting there. it truly was a highwark mark for the band-who would soon finish the tour and then make a decision to release the beatles soundalike, deface, which, like it or not, desroyed most of the momentum gained for utopia from '78-'80, of which this must be the documented peak. damn good fm quality. ESSENTIAL.

Note: here is one of the only broadcasts from one of the tour's very last gigs-it is edited but edited well for back in the day. the sound is older and there were problems with a balanced sound. there is talk of who shot jr-hit singles very last time (nice version) and set me free. gangrene has willie's customary intro...the performance is great. the last ride is superb. trapped gets outta sync in a place (a rare major screw up). the first set generally is spirited and brisk. chris anderson is interviewed at the intermission about the technology involved in the show. this set inlcudes my favorite ever performance of bag lady, cliche is brisk but delicate. we find out it turns out that willie shot jr...at the end of set a psych-phased echo comes into your ears. the medley is there but cuts at 7 rays-bummer-on the bonus interview, tr sounds a bit depressed-could have been the period of time he referred to later-that he needed healing.

this is a rough audience cassette-for sound quality- but is a very special one-off with the TUBES. for those who want all the special moments in tr/tubes history, this is a keeper for sure but the sound is only decent (very muddy and crackles/slight drop-outs at points)-tr would soon join ian hunter for the anderson thing, then onto the deface tour. 

great quote, "the only difference between me and billy joel is about 24 records!"

Note: this is not the complete show but the king biscuit abbreviated remix. show from upstate home venue for the boys-soon tr would prefer the west coast trip. (missing: princess, longbow, set me free, lysistrata,  very last time, caravan, nw riders, love is the answer...ouch! that'll have to change soon)   this tour was the first that had a tech sound (at that time) where the songs from oblivion are featured. 

CD TWO: YOU MAKE ME CRAZY. SWING TO THE RIGHT. THE VERY LAST TIME. TRAPPED. ROAD TO UTOPIA. CARAVAN. LAST OF THE NEW WAVE RIDERS. CRYBABY. LOVE IS THE ANSWER. JUST ONE VICTORY. 

Note: here's one of the most often traded '84 shows and it sounds very good for an old audie. it isn't better than the radio stuff (poughkeepsie/chicago) but the performance is super. willie's drumming on if i didnt try is super with great feel, hammer sounds very different groove- wise, and abandon city crawls slowly along. this makes for some great stuff! todd'ss rhythm guitar on the mid set tunes shines...itch/thinker is one of the best versions, performance wise, the guitar leads and ending of thinker screams, and roger goes nuts on caravan. during crybaby, there is (w/ hysteria) a slight roughness to the sound which rebounds quickly in a few seconds. all in all, not the best sound but an exceptional performance overall ..the bonus tracks include the timely i/v from nyc (which i will eventually graft onto the nyc 8/24/84 show) and the strangeness of the poetry benefit..a village local thing-todd decides to cut substantial amount of hair off his head during the performance (before honest work)..for the last tune.. we hear him joined by kaz, and willies brother on drums who played for derringer at the time..by the way, in case you wonder--someone wanted the hair, so he gave it away..........another curious one-off..by the way...if you havent bought billys book by now..you're crazy. get it!

Note: this is the single CD version and not the complete show as it is missing: bring me my longbow, hammer in my heart, and lysistrata...but most of it is here in well-captured fm brilliance.
