Note: the last stop on the "summer of '75 tour" and recording sessions for ANOTHER LIVE...classic for sure with tons of segues...it's SEGUERRIFIC !!!!!! they actually open up with a SCREAMING star spangled banner...todd briefly stops utopia theme in an effort to stop some chaos at the front of the stage among audience members.  "we're recording tonight for our next utopia album" - TR...leads to explanation of the concept of the SEVEN RAYS - "about things you can only do with other people"... i believe this is  the one that made ANOTHER LIVE despite the key solo and axe climbup being different -  over-dubbed later on. this is for sure THE WHEEL that made the cut...also pre-overdub stage. if you can handle a decent 'open air' sound, despite being in a colisseum, then this is for you as THE PERFORMANCE is stellar, fruitful, polished yet raw, and full of life. DYEL is " a cereal melody" as he wrote it while eating his granola...todd says sammy davis , jr.,  jimmy hoffa, and jaws are in the crowd during SIDKWTF/ADGOF...some great commentary here, interesting mix of harmonies - moogy is quite loud, and interesting mix of tunes. dream has no first verse as it segues outta sometimes and into a screaming opening line of hello---which even has an added key change at the end---to segue even more thru the land of hits into ISTL...KILLER piece from "the utopia orchestra". the technological blues is very, very fun...and funny! TRISCUITS is pre-edit (with extended psychedelia) compared to album version, which is from this performance for sure. it's the second year anniversary of the original live capture of sons of '84...and it's hoppin'. siegler is ON FIRE!... and willie instead of ellman.  i hope to get this one re-mastered by fall '03 as the performance is very heartfelt by the entire band, especially todd. the magic of the second set is superbly delicious, although todd's guitar gets a bit buried in the mix. his axe is also outta tune for the three song encore but, by that point, it doesn't matter at all as this is one fabulous performance from a stellarly hot band caught at a great space in time.

Note: this gem comes from the UK. a decent audience tape from the show cleaned up marvelously. this is superior in quality to the complete tape that has made the rounds before. this is clearly a different source, slightly more distant but clearer. the bonus tracks are a decent sounding unknown source version (TV, steve says but its not the midnight special version) and a wonderful bbc higher quality version of initiation which i am adding to the opne my eyes boot from here on out as well..the quality is not quite as great as OME but very close-(steve mixed it for ambient stereo). Alan Speed informs me that the version of Real Man is from the Old Grey Whistle test in 75 (of which the complete has not yet been found and may be lost forever as I understand from others that the archive was not kept).

WHAT's the best version here? this one is my least fave as i'd like to see the reel-to-reel copy combined with the complete audience recording and mastered together with today's technlology...perhaps this is on the horizon somewhere...one can hope as it is definitely one of the best shows of all time!

Note: hey, another oldie popped up and this is an upgrade. -its really nice- it was real good before but this has about 30 mins more and sounds better. a complete version of fair warning starts off cd 2. this is a great 'photo' of where the tour which started in europe ended up. very soon after this show, there would only be rog and willie left, they would record disco jets with seigler and then the 4 piece or new utopia era would begin as kaz would soon arrive on the scene (on a greyhound bus he took to lake hill from staten island).

Note: classic 70's takrl boot lp transferred wonderfully. what a fun time-this shows the shock of what most of us experienced at the time. nowadays things are looser but this cd shows the outlandish band in rowdy form during young and rich era..very cool...RAW  and hungry.

Note: another strike from the archive project, this excellent audience tape has virtually no talk and very clear sound. the tape is somewhat old and not crisp but is still very deserving of the transfer due to the quality. playing is strong and shows some evolution on the ra tracks compared to the summer 76 shows. clb premier features different lyrics and a slightly different line that is almost arriving at the melody a year later or so on oops!. some tech probs during some songs-the house sound was the prob but not enought to prevent this from being a pretty good old audience tape. bonus is the year later interview about oops! time.

Note:one of the two new 77 ra shows from japan and this ones the better one..sound is much better than the cassette version (which i had for ages)...the sound is still not better than the euro one (here to come or the eye of ra) but is a very strong audie with little to zero yap..jealosy is real strong and the jazz tinged / acid tinged eternal love center section has a lot of trippy echo on it and the tune is over ten minutes long..at the old fox..harder and harder to find these old things-in the realm of old audies this is real special..thanks to hk- a tireless warrior of transfers!

As good as an old FM gets ...from what I believe is one of the best surviving tapes of this fantastic event. not to discourage the purchase of legit products by any means but stack it up to the japanese import version/sanctuary box set and you'll here the superiority of this recording right away! i DID attempt to contact sanctuary records prior to the release of the Last of the New Wave Riders 7CD set about the superiority of this recording...oh well. if i didn't TRy, how would i know?

Note: this is one of the best boots you will ever hear. take a trip back to '78 and you have tickets for both shows...mother's day. excellent-sounding soundboard show - another bubnick/russo gem. these gems are brought to us by Randy Walters, who took a break from his finals in the Spring of '78 to work on the Fedco recording truck for these shows. fortunately, his souvenir was these two shows recorded from the board directly to a portable JVC deck onto Maxell UDXL I cassette tape. this isn't the house PA mix, but "...essentially a 'live studio' mix in an environment acoustically isolated from the performance space..." to borrow Randy's own words. "WOW!"... made from Randy's masters played back on a $2,000 Yamaha 4 head deck->DAT->CD...you can't beat that. the differences in sound quality between these tapes and the BTTB CDs are pretty minimal and the cool thing is you get the whole picture here and not the cut-up mix from BTTB. this is a must have for the seriously into it in '78. ESSENTIAL...thanks, frank! Note 7/22-just received an upgrade of some sort that may include a missing or flawed tune.

Note: a pretty darn good audience tape from 70 this is...real nyc crowd, as evidenced by the "sit down!" appropriately during abandon city...and there's a bit of yap here but it is pretty sharp sound for the time and the performance is damn good. stellar bonus track here with chaka wailing the second verse and augmenting throughout this soulful rendition of THE classic tr song of all-time. chaka seems to force some quite interesting inflections from todd's voice.
